Rekey or Replace? The Honest Answer
Rekeying is faster and cheaper than replacing — and just as secure. Here's the decision in one minute.
Should I rekey or replace my locks?
Rekeying changes the pins inside your existing lock so old keys stop working. Replacing means new hardware. For most Indian Land, SC homeowners, rekeying is the right answer.
Rekey when: you just bought a home in Indian Land, SC, you lost a key, a roommate moved out, you finished a renovation, or contractors had access to 29707. The hardware is fine; only the keys need to change.
Replace when: the lock is physically damaged, the finish doesn't match, the lock is older than 15–20 years, the cylinder won't accept new pins, or you're upgrading to a smart lock or higher security grade.
Cost-wise, rekeying a typical Indian Land, SC home (4 doors keyed alike) is dramatically cheaper than replacing four deadbolts. Both options are equally secure — security comes from key control, not new metal.
Tip: when our Indian Land, SC locksmith rekeys, ask to have every door keyed alike. One key for the front, back, garage, and side door is more convenient and just as safe.
